So, you’re probably wondering why I’m writing about Spring and Summer when it’s literally freezing outside. (For real, my nipples could cut glass every time I walk outside, sorry TMI?) But the truth is, I’ve been dying to write this post since last year!
I’ve waited so long because I couldn’t really write a shopping/style blog about spring trends in the dead of the Fall/Winter season; (even though we already knew what they were going to be based on Fashion Week Shows last September). So patiently I waited, and I’m glad I did because now I’ve been able to scope out the ‘newest arrivals’ of Spring shipments to some of my favorite stores.
If you’ve read some of my previous blogs, you might have an idea about how obsessed I am with anything black and white.. Literally, I can barely say no to anything black and white, whether it is clothing, pillows, candles, curtains, or cookies… It actually might be a problem.
With that in mind, you can imagine my utter excitement when seeing the Spring/Summer13 RTW shows last year. Although I’m a firm believer that black and white will always stay in style, it is even better that it’s going to be one of the hottest trends this season. And even better, this groundbreaking color combo takes shape this Spring in the best way possible: Stripes.
If you don’t believe me, here’s the Cliffnote version from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2013.
MARC JACOBS SPRING/SUMMER RTW 2013
This Collection was so amazing that Style.com even said in their review, “Jamie Bochert’s jumpsuit of sequined stripes had the kind of linear immediacy that would surely generate a why-didn’t-I-think of-that? moment for other designers…”
And yes, it’s totally true.
BALENCIAGA SPRING/SUMMER RTW 2013
Attention ladies, you must have long, skinny, lean legs to wear most of these looks! We will certainly miss Nicholas, but can not wait to see what Mr. Wang has in store for us, I have a feeling it will be MAJOR!
ALEXANDER WANG SPRING/SUMMER RTW 2013 REVOLUTIONARY.
TOPSHOP UNIQUE SPRING/SUMMER RTW 2013
Excited about this Collection–Especially considering our already existing everyday love of Topshop! Described as the “Big Sister” to our beloved Topshop, these pieces speak to a cleaner, more sophisticated and less trendy girl, definitely some pieces worth investing in as they will become wardrobe staples.
PREEN SPRING/SUMMER RTW 2013
I plan to one day own EVERYTHING created by this dynamic duo!
RACHEL ZOE SPRING/SUMMER RTW 2013
Rachel Zoe always manages to have a classic style that is seriously wearable, and so classic. Much Love for that!
COSTUME NATIONAL SPRING/SUMMER RTW 2013
I love how Costume National keeps refined edited collections, it adds to their powerful message of clean, classic silhouetts with edgy twists. This collection is amazing in it’s wearability.
So now that we recapped, its definitely apparent that if we’re gonna look good this Spring, we gotta get our stripe on. This is the best part, because now we get to practice what we’ve learned and go shopping! I did a little research from some of my favorite stores and put together some must have looks for Spring. You can find all the items listed below in stores (or online) now!
These items were all found on Topshop (www.topshop.com). These looks are great if you’re on the ’20 something girl’ budget. They are perfect for mixing and matching; (you don’t just have to pair them with only black and white, throw in a some cool colored accents if you’re feeling a little frisky)! Also, they are perfect if you’re a little eclectic and have a job that allows you to showcase more of a ‘day-time’ style. Plus, everything here is between $30-$110! Perfect mix and matched finds!
These items are found at Zara (www.zara.com) For a Career Girl, with a ‘Career Girl’ Budget. If you have a 9-5 job, where you need to have a more professional look, Zara may be one of the best places to shop. It’s a little more pricey, but you are guaranteed to leave looking pretty polished, and also have some pieces that will last more than a season or two. (P.S. I know that leopard print isn’t really stripes, but I couldn’t resist…)
These items were found at Barney’s NY (www.barneys.com). If you’re an avid shopper on a ‘Socialite’s Budget’ (basically meaning, no budget at all), then check out these Stripes and alikes at Barney’s. These items range in price and style, but have a little bit more of an edgier, high fashion appeal to them. My personal favorite, The Row Ghent Sweater, one day I will have $1,200 to spend on one sweater!
Now, let’s go shopping friends ! xo
Stay tuned for my ‘White Stripes’ PhotoShoot, where I do a little “Dressing It Down” Next Week 🙂
